2011 Lincoln MKZ

2011 Lincoln MKZ

Maybe this is how Ford continues to grow!!!

“For the first time, a North American automaker plans to sell a hybrid car for the same, lower price as its gas-powered counterpart, removing at least one obstacle for drivers who want a greener ride.

At a little more than US$35,000, the 2011 Lincoln MKZ sedan won’t be cheap, but the decision by Ford to match the prices of the two styles could lead competitors to follow suit with future models.

The hybrid MKZ, debuting this fall and running on both gas and electric power, will be a bargain after factoring in savings at the pump. It gets more than double the mileage of the traditional version in city driving.

While automakers won’t reveal what they spend to install a hybrid system in a car, the final product usually costs several thousand dollars more than a gas-powered version of the same car….” – CTV News.ca

Ford Earns $2.6B Second Quarter Profit!

Ford Motor Co.

It’s amazing how far Ford Motor Company has come.

When others were seeking billions of dollars in Government bailout funds; Ford said “No thanks”.  When others concentrated more on big-wig staffing changes and who gets what bonuses; Ford concentrated on their model line-up.  And when others fell short of goals and sales targets; Ford blew right by them!

“Want more proof that Ford is really starting to pick up some serious momentum? The Wall Street Journal is reporting that The Blue Oval will follow up its $2.1 billion first quarter profits with another $2.6 billion in black ink for the second quarter. That’s a far cry from the $424 million the automaker lost in the second quarter of last year and another big step towards sustained financial success. Ford is making money in part because of restructured costs, but also because of increased awareness in its well-reviewed new products.

Ford is looking better on many fronts, including models with more competitive pricing, higher residual values, improved quality and sales increases that are outpacing most of its rivals. Ford now has a competitive small and midsize car lineup for the first time in decades, but the big money is still coming from larger vehicles. F-150 sales, for example, are up 25 percent for the quarter, while Super Duty sales are reportedly up 55 percent. In terms of average transaction prices, another success has been the revamped Taurus, which is fetching a whopping $6,300 more than the outgoing model and $850 more than the average Toyota Avalon. “  -  Chris Shunk – Autoblog.com

2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid: How cool is this car?

2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid

2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid

It only takes one good experience to change an opinion.  Enter the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid.

I’ll admit, at first, I wasn’t too excited to be driving around in a Hybrid.  A week of typically lacklustre performance and a dull interior was not what the Dr. ordered for my 150 km rush hour commute.  But I knew after the first 10 minutes in the Fusion that this was not your normal Hybrid.  This is what all Hybrids should be like!

Getting right to the point; the Fusion can run at speeds of up to 75 km/h solely on its electric system or HV system as they call it.  That’s not a typo!  Hit the cruise control at 75 km/h on a relatively flat stretch of road and listen to the engine, well… not purr.  Not a fan of cruise control?  The Fusions integrated and easy to read dashboard displays a well-arranged group of information needed to show you how to maximize your fuel-economy.  The best of the gauges is the Ecogauge, which shows you the ’sweet spot’ for the electric motor.  Feather the gas just right to stay within the sweet spot and your running on fumes!

And that’s what the Fusion Hybrid does better than anyone else.  It’s almost like other manufacturers are scared to use the full potential of the battery’s power.  They turn the Hybrid system on and off at the slightest touch.  Off at a stop light, but then immediately on after releasing the brake.  Off in very slow (5km/h or less) traffic and then back on when you dare try to catch up to the car ahead.  Aren’t Hybrids designed for inner-city stop and go traffic?   (more…)

GM & Ford Announce Employee Pricing for July 2010

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010
Cincopa video hosting solution for your website. Another great product from Cincopa Send Files.

General Motors (GM) and Ford of Canada have announced their Employee Pricing Event for July 2010.

What does Employee Pricing mean?

Employee Pricing typically equals the dealer invoice price, less any factory rebates. Therefore as long as the factory rebates don’t change, you are saving by not having to pay a dealer markup/profit, which in most cases would be 3%-4% if you are smart enough to use a CCC Wholesale Invoice Price Report to negotiate your deal.

The only problem is that in the past when we’ve seen Employee Pricing programs, the factory has conveniently reduced the factory rebates. So, with one hand they’re offering you savings and with the other they are taking it away by clawing back on the rebates. . . Nice!

The GM Employee Pricing program started a couple of weeks ago and all details are now live in our system. In most cases the rebates were lowered, but not by that much. Plus the dealers get a 5% commission for selling their vehicles at their cost. Many of our dealers have already committed to sharing some of their rebates with our members, so that’s a good deal made even better.

We’ll have the new Ford Employee Pricing program details live right after the weekend. So if you want to compare, get a report on any vehicle you are interested in now, then get another one after the program updates and see which way works out better (additional reports on the same vehicle are always free at CCC). Unfortunetly, you can’t get the old program if it was better, but in most cases the new program should be better.

Quick note: Employee pricing programs typically apply to most 2010 & 2011 models.  Keyword: Most.  Of course, the best of the best are usually not included.

Full report to follow, stay tuned.

Here’s the Free Reports Friday’s 2nd edition, featuring the popular 2010 Ford Fusion SE.

Yes, I know I missed the last two Fridays, but I’ve been very busy and after all I’m doing this on Easter Sunday, so please cut me some slack ;-)

Although SE models tend to be ordered with few options, I added every available option to show you all the pricing.

Please note I added this report on April 4th (Easter Sunday) and the April factory incentives were not in our system yet. Normally they are updated within 2-3 business days after the 1st of the month. Therefore, in this case, due to the Easter holiday long weekend, that would mean Monday or Tuesday.

2010 Ford Fusion SE 4dr - Loaded - CCC Report part #1 - Base price, options, MSRP and invoice prices

These cars are typically advertised for well under $20,000 in your local newspapers.
How can they do this? . . . Follow the math below.

1- Full retail price before freight or options is $22,799
2- The Delivery allowance/Factory to Dealer Rebate shown below is $4,000, so that comes off the top
3- The Ford Custom Car Event Cash/Factory to Customer Rebate will take another $1,000 off.
3- Net price after rebates – $17,799
At $17,799 the dealer is still making his full profit bewteen retail and wholesale of $1,427. So with an acceptable offer of 3% over wholesle, you should be able to buy it for just under $17,000 + options, freight and taxes.

2011 Mustang V6 is Most Efficient 300-Plus Horsepower Car Ever Made

Modern-Day Performance is So Much More than Merely Engine Output

Ford is all about fuel-economy lately, without sacrificing performance. At least that’s what its latest ads point out, and the new 2011 Mustang V6 is a prime example.

Not only does the new Mustang V6 deliver a robust 305-horsepower, but the latest pony car’s baseline engine achieves the EPA estimated equivalent of 12.4 L/100km in the city and 7.6 L/100km on the highway! That makes it the most fuel-efficient 300-plus horsepower car ever produced.

“Advanced powertrains like our Ti-VCT V-6 and six-speed automatic really speak to the future of Mustang,” says Barb Samardzich, Ford vice president of Global Powertrain Engineering. “We’ve proven that, using technology, Ford can deliver both power and fuel economy.”

The new 3.7-litre six gets its best fuel economy from the optional six-speed automatic, but a six-speed manual comes standard and still manages a very impressive 7.8 L/100km on the highway.

Also aiding fuel economy, the 2011 Mustang V6 features electric power steering as well as aerodynamic improvements, including a revised front fascia, tire spats on the rear wheels, reworked underbody shields, a taller air dam, and an additional rear decklid seal.

New car sales up in Canada February 2010 Car Cost Canada

Wow! . . . what a month for the Canadian car business in February.

Overall sales were up 24.9%, with passenger cars up 11.3% and Light trucks which include SUVs, CUVs, Minivans, Vans, Pickups etc up an amazing 39.0%.

Recession, what recession?

Mind you, last February was pretty brutal. But still, anytime you can have that kind of a sales increase on a major purchase, it’s a great sign of an economy that is much healthier that it used to be.

A huge congratulations has to go out to the good folks at Ford of Canada.

Ford not only increased its sales by 51.1%, it actually outsold every other car maker in the country.

Other car makers that beat the overall market:
Listed in alphabetical order

Audi up 38.1%*
Honda up 33.2%
Kia up 35.1%
Lexus up 26.2%*
Mercedes-Benz up 33.3%*
Mini up 30.4%*
Subaru up 36.5%
Toyota up 25.2% – Unbelievable considering all of the negative media they’ve had to deal with.
Volkswagen up 63.9% – All the experts say nobody wants diesels. I guess they forgot to tell VW ;-)

* High luxury car sales is a great positive sign of a healthy market.

Despite a strong sales month some car makers failed to match their sales from Feb 2009:
Listed in alphabetical order

Acura down 13.3%
Nissan down 6.6%
Smart down 15.6%
Suzuki down 3.8%
