Buying a 2011 Dodge Durango, and saving $3000 off of MSRP.
I chose dealer because they had the model and options I wanted. Victoria is not a big market. I looked at the other dealer but did not like the cars he had as much. MSRP in window sticker was $500 less than MSRP on this site (and Consumer Reports site has same numbers as CCC). I redid the calculation of invoice with new MSRP and used same markup as presented in the CCC report to get invoice. I asked for and saw the dealer invoice which was exactly the same. I would say the salesman and sales manager were reasonable to deal with, well within the bounds of negotiations, knowing that we had different goals. They did not try any unusual pressure or tricks. They started about $700 above the final agreed value which was $1000 over invoice, so $1700 over invoice. This was a late in model year purchase so they had to clear the lot for 2012s. I made a final deal at 1000 over invoice. They also will get the holdback of $700 more. I had to be very clear about what was included and insisted we discuss all of the numbers up front, with no additional fees or costs other than discussed. It took a few minutes to make sure we were using exactly the same numbers as they added various fees and charges. Once we were both looking at the bottom line things became clear. This is very important. I did not finance with them or take any of the optional services. They offered all the usual dealer packs, but no aggressive hard sell tactics. I am reasonably confident that the invoice numbers I had were correct so this was helpful. I had also got the same information from another site Consumer Reports which had the same numbers but costs more.
