Buying a 2012 Volkswagen Golf, and saving $1500 off of MSRP.
We followed advice of Car Cost and Consumer's Reports. We negotiated the price of the car first, and when I pulled out the Car Cost Canada report from my briefcase we came to a price without any rancour or tension. The markup was well within the recommended Car Cost margin. We then concluded the trade in value of my car based on the Canadian Black Book value and the deal was simple, with a bit of haggling over the trade value.

Leasing a 2012 Volkswagen Tiguan, and saving $1500 off of MSRP.
The Wholesale Price Report was very beneficial in helping me reduce time spent haggling or negotiating with the sales rep. I was able to identify the price I wanted to pay based on the fair markup to the sales rep and he was able to get an approval on it from his Sales Manager within minutes.

Go to the showroom prepared. Don't give in till you get what you researched from the reports. In many cases, they will/want to work with you, just be reasonable. I was also able to negotiate that they throw in the rubber mats over & above the above discount. As a single female, the car cost report gave me the tool to negotiate.

Knowing the retail and dealer pricing helped me know the playing field and ensure a win/win deal. Dealer advised me on additional incentive that car cost did know flag.
