Deal for a price first, then show the CarCost printout if the price is not what you wanted.

I chose this dealer as it was the closest to where I lived, and fortunately they were great! I told them what I was looking for and showed them the Car Cost report. The sales representative was very knowledgeable, helpful and patient. I test drove the forester a few times(turbo and base engine). They offered me an excellent price without my having to haggle. I was also pleased with my trade in price. I will definetly recommend this dealership to friends and family.

I looked at 3 vehicles: Honda Accord EX-L, the Nissan Altima 2.5S Luxury model and the Subaru Legacy 2.5i Limited model. While Honda and Nissan offered manufacturer rebates, in addition to a 3% dealer markup, issues surrounding the end date of the rebate and possible inter dealer trades that could result in an additional charge to me resulted in my not choosing to buy either the Honda or the Nissan. instead I purchased the Subaru for a higher dealer markup and no manufacturer rebate but without any other financial timing issues. While the Subaru price was higher I was not faced with what looked to me like "bait and switch" tactics which meant that my final price for the Honda and Nissan vehicles was higher than I had originally been led to believe.

Buying a 2011 Subaru Impreza, and saving $4000 off of MSRP.
I test drove the new Impreza Touring model at one dealer and then called all the dealers in the area to see if they had any used Sport models available (sticker price $26,695). When I went into Ogilvie Motors (Ottawa) I brought my CarCost Canada report, a spreadsheet where I had calculated the price at 3% to 6% markup and a calculator. Since I was negotiating on a 4 months old car with 13000 km on it I knew that I could get an additional $1300 off. I sat down in the manager's office with my research and calculator and asked him for the price. He didn't mess around. I paid less than $28,000 all taxes and additional charges included (could have got it for $1000 less if I had paid cash). I am VERY happy with the deal I got. I don't think that I would have been as confident without having done my research on this site first. THANK YOU!
