{"id":3793,"date":"2021-03-12T15:58:32","date_gmt":"2021-03-12T20:58:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/articles.carcostcanada.com\/?p=3793"},"modified":"2021-03-12T15:58:32","modified_gmt":"2021-03-12T20:58:32","slug":"ford-and-hyundai-shine-at-2021-north-american-car-utility-and-truck-of-the-year-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/articles.carcostcanada.com\/ford-and-hyundai-shine-at-2021-north-american-car-utility-and-truck-of-the-year-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Ford and Hyundai shine at 2021 North American Car, Utility and Truck of the Year awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_3798\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3798\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3798\" src=\"https:\/\/articles.carcostcanada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/inline_2021_ford_f_150_00100.jpg\" alt=\"2021 Ford F-150\" width=\"200\" height=\"141\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3798\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The 2021 Ford F-150 took home the coveted North American Truck of the Year award.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In case you missed it, Ford almost swept the 2021 North American Car, Utility and Truck of the Year (NACTOY) awards, with <a href=\"https:\/\/carcostcanada.com\/Canada\/Prices\/2021-Ford-F_150\/33751\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the industry\u2019s best-selling F-150<\/a> claiming 2021 Truck of the Year, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/carcostcanada.com\/Canada\/Prices\/2021-Ford-Mustang_Mach_E\/33642\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mustang Mach-E earning 2021\u2019s Utility of the Year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The 2021 Car of the Year went to <a href=\"https:\/\/carcostcanada.com\/Canada\/Prices\/2021-Hyundai-Elantra\/33996\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hyundai\u2019s redesigned Elantra<\/a>, which might cause pause amongst blue-oval product planners questioning whether or not they might\u2019ve enjoyed a three-way win if the much-lauded European-spec Focus was still offered on our shores.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3799\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3799\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3799\" src=\"https:\/\/articles.carcostcanada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/inline_2021_hyundai_elantra_00100.jpg\" alt=\"2021 Hyundai Elantra\" width=\"200\" height=\"143\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3799\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hyundai&#8217;s redesigned Elantra earned the 2021 North American Car of the Year award.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Hyundai won the car sector\u2019s second-place prize too, or at least its <a href=\"https:\/\/carcostcanada.com\/Canada\/Prices\/2021-Genesis-G80\/33714\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Genesis luxury brand<\/a> did. That honour went to <a href=\"https:\/\/carcostcanada.com\/Canada\/Prices\/2021-Genesis-G80\/33714\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the redesigned G80 mid-size luxury sedan<\/a>, whereas <a href=\"https:\/\/carcostcanada.com\/Canada\/Prices\/2021-Nissan-Sentra\/33949\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nissan\u2019s wholly redone Sentra<\/a> took a respectable third in the yearly awards program.<\/p>\n<p>Hyundai\u2019s Genesis brand once again placed well in the Utility category, pulling in right behind the <a href=\"https:\/\/carcostcanada.com\/Canada\/Prices\/2021-Ford-Mustang_Mach_E\/33642\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mustang Mach-E<\/a> with its <a href=\"https:\/\/carcostcanada.com\/Canada\/Prices\/2021-Genesis-GV80\/33544\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new GV80 mid-size luxury crossover SUV<\/a>, while the <a href=\"https:\/\/carcostcanada.com\/Canada\/Prices\/2021-Land%20Rover-Defender\/33990\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rugged looking Land Rover Defender<\/a> claimed third.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, <a href=\"https:\/\/carcostcanada.com\/Canada\/Prices\/2021-Jeep-Gladiator\/33745\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the \u201cDesert Rated\u201d Jeep Gladiator Mojave<\/a> took second in the Truck of the Year segment (the entire Gladiator line won this category in 2020), while the <a href=\"https:\/\/carcostcanada.com\/Canada\/Prices\/2021-Ram-1500\/33815\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">off-road \u201crace replica\u201d Ram 1500 TRX<\/a> earned a solid third place.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3800\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3800\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3800\" src=\"https:\/\/articles.carcostcanada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/inline_2021_ford_mustang_mach_e_00600.jpg\" alt=\"2021 Ford Mach-E\" width=\"200\" height=\"151\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3800\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ford&#8217;s Mustang-inspired (and named) Mach-E, deservedly won Utility of the Year, despite the controversy surrounding its name.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Interestingly, the Truck of the Year finalists just mentioned were only significantly upgraded trims of models previously available in 2020, making the <a href=\"https:\/\/carcostcanada.com\/Canada\/Prices\/2021-Ford-F_150\/33751\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">category-winning F-150<\/a> as the only winner to be completely redesigned.<\/p>\n<p>To learn more about these NACTOY-winning vehicles, be sure to click on the associated link.
