CarCostCanada's January 2019 Top 10 Vehicles Sold Report

Welcome to 2019! Although the new year has just begun, there were declines in sales of both passenger cars and light trucks. In comparison to last year, there was a 7 percent drop in passenger car sales and a 5 percent drop in light truck sales. The highlight in January 2019; the Tesla Model 3 moved onto Canada’s list of “Best Selling Cars” for the first time. The Ford F Series once again took the number one spot with 8554 units sold - an increase of 779 units compared to January 2018. The Toyota RAV4 finished in the 4th spot on our list with 3630 units sold - an incredible 32 percent more than last year. One manufacturer in particular saw it’s sales plummet 18%. The Honda CR-V suffered a drop of 24% in comparison to January 2018 sales. Another vehicle to take a big hit was the Honda Civic, which sold 806 less units than January 2018. Two other manufacturers that suffered a steep decline were General Motors and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. On the bright side, both manufacturers saw improved sales registered by their pickup truck models. Keep an eye on the race to be the second highest selling car maker in Canada. At the end of January, General Motors, Toyota and Fiat Chrysler were separated by only 58 units.
