Buying a 2011 Volkswagen Golf, and saving $1500 off of MSRP.
CCC made me aware of a factory to dealer rebate. I used your dealer cost, added what I considered an appropriate margin, deducted the rebate and presented, by e-mail, a straight cash offer. We negotiated the "documentation fee" and that was it. This was the most simple, pleasant and anxiety-free car purchase I have ever experienced. It is terrific knowing you're not leaving a lot of money "on the table."
I should add that this wasn't the only dealer I contacted. One was utterly vague and confusing. Another refused to negotiate on price unless I traveled to their dealership on the mainland. A third was quite flexible on the bottom line but then lumped in a couple of absurd extra charges. Because I had the CarCostCanada information I had no problem weeding them out.
