Buying a 2008 Honda Civic Sdn, and saving $1000 off of MSRP.
The mark up was aproximately $1400. I went in prepared to accept a deduction of at least $500. When they wrote up the offer it had a deduction of $500.00 right off the bat. But the offer contained an item for $395.00 for Administrative Costs, which was pre-printed on the form to make it look like there was nothing they could do about it. It meant that I would really only would get a discount of about $105. I told them politely that I wasn't prepared to pay it and if they wanted to drop it I would make the deal right then and there. They said they couldn't so I said thanks, I may be back but for now I'm going to keep looking. I was in my car about to leave the lot and the salesman tapped on my window. He told me to come back in and they would waive the fee. Actually to save face they said I still I had to pay the fee but that they would drop the price by another $395.00. So I ended up getting my net $500.00 discount. My experience with the dealership was good but I thought the $395 was a little bit sleazy. Thats why I rated them a 7 instead of an 8 or a 9.
