CarCostCanada's February 2019 Top 10 Vehicles Sold Report

The trend of continued declines in new vehicle sales continued unabated during February 2019. This should not surprise anyone. New car vehicle sales are coming off record high levels in the previous two years. To suggest that there are less new car buyers in the market might not be a stretch. High levels of personal debt may also be negatively affecting demand. Passenger cars sales dipped 10% compared to the same period in 2018. Interestingly, the majority of the decline was in the imported car segment. Light truck sales increased just 1% year over year, with the all of the increase being registered by import manufacturers. Year to date light vehicle sales are down 8851 units. The Ford F Series truck once again was the top selling vehicle. It’s sales were 2% lower than February 2018. The other vehicles in Canada’s top 10 were the Ram Pickup, the Honda CR-V, the Toyota RAV4, the Honda Civic, the GMC Sierra, the Chevrolet Silverado, the Dodge Grand Caravan, the Toyota Corolla and the Jeep Wrangler. The Toyota RAV4 and the Honda CR-V both posted better than 20% increases in sales. While of the top twelve selling car makers, Hyundai - Kia Automotive was the only one to record a measurable increase in sales. It’s sales rose 14% .
