CarCostCanada's April 2019 Top 10 Vehicles Sold Report

As we move past the first quarter of 2019, we expected to see positive changes in overall sales for the car industry. Unfortunately, that was not the case for the month of April. Passenger car sales were down by 14 percent, and light truck sales were down about one percent. Overall, we saw a decline in all light vehicle sales by 5 percent in comparison to last year. The top seller, Ford Motor Company, saw a sales decline of 4 percent. There was also a 5 percent drop in the F Series’ sales, which has done quite well so far this year. On a more positive note, sales of the Ford Escape increased by 3 percent and stayed on our top 10 list. The Ram Pickup saw an awesome 30 percent increase in it’s sales for the month of April, which is by far the best we have seen for the number 2 volume model in a very long time. Toyota had a very impressive month. RAV4 sales rose 24% compared to April 2018. Overall sales jumped 6 percent in comparison to last year. Only four vehicles on our list of top selling models saw an increase in sales for this month. This was another bad month in 2019 for General Motors, as it saw it’s Silverado decline by 18 percent, the Sierra’s sales plummeted by 20 percent and sadly, their overall sales had a hefty decline as well and went down by 13 percent compared to last year. Another manufacturer that had a negative month was surprisingly Honda. Both the Civic and the CR-V’s sales dropped and their monthly sales in comparison to April 2018 fell by 5 percent. April 2019 was not a great month for many of the manufacturers and cars mentioned on our list, hopefully the significant incentives being offered during May 2019 will result in improved new vehicle sales.
