CarCostCanada's May 2019 Top 10 Vehicles Sold Report

Now that summer has finally arrived everywhere in Canada, there were hopes and expectations of increasing new vehicle sales. Unfortunately that was not the case during May 2019. On a year over year basis, passenger car sales dropped by a significant 18 percent while light truck sales were virtually unchanged. The two vehicles that took the biggest hit were the Ram Pickup and the Honda Civic. Both the Ram and Civic saw a whopping 22 percent plummet in sales in comparison to May 2018. On the bright side, Toyota had another great month with the RAV4 powering up with a 23 percent increase in sales. The Corolla also had an excellent month with a 10 percent increase. For Toyota, their overall sales for May 2019 increased by 9 percent. Toyota seems have certainly found a formula that works. The only vehicle amongst the top sellers to report an increase in sales, was the Honda CR V which had a modest 2 percent increase in sales. Fiat Chrysler suffered a staggering 25 percent decrease in their overall sales this year in comparison to May 2018. General Motors did not have a good month either with its Sierra dropping by 17 percent, and it’s Silverado dropping by 8 percent. Overall GM sales decreased by 13 percent. The Ford F Series retains its position at the top of our best selling vehicles list once again, with a small 1 percent decrease in sale., Overall, Ford Motor Company sales were down 2 percent. The May weather was somewhat gloomy in many parts of the country. Hopefully better weather in June, July and August will be the catalyst increased new vehicle sales.
