CarCostCanada's June 2019 Top 10 Vehicles Sold Report
Canada's Top 10 Selling New Cars
After reporting gloomy sales during May 2019, we are happy to report that many of the cars on our Top 10 List realized solid sales volumes in June. But first, we have to cover the overall sales numbers of passenger cars and light trucks sold in Canada. Passenger car sales took a 20 percent hit, and light truck sales declined by 5 percent during the month of June in comparison to last year. The Ford F Series bucked the negative trend with a 13 percent increase in its sales in comparison to June 2018. It is quite remarkable that the F Series has almost outsold the second best selling vehicle in Canada by a factor of 2 to 1. Another notable success story was the Toyota RAV 4 which saw a 27 percent increase in comparison to last year. Another vehicle that had a positive month, the Ram Pickup saw a 7 percent increase. Overall RAM Pickup sales are down less than 2000 units compared to the same period in 2018. The Hyundai Tucson generated an 11% lift in sales. Overall for the 1st six months of 2019, Tucson sales are up just under 1000 units. Nissan Rogue also appeared on our list and saw only a 1 percent increase, but an increase nonetheless. Surprisingly, the Honda CR-V did not have an excellent month as it saw a drop of 19 percent in comparison to last year’s sales. Although Ford saw an increase with the F Series, the Ford Escape sales plummeted by 22 percent. Looking at the overall numbers for each top manufacturer were not very positive either, as all of them saw a decrease in their sales in comparison to last year. But, there is one that sticks out like a sore thumb on the list, which is General Motors. GM saw a staggering 22 percent decline in June 2019, and for the first time in recent memory, none of their vehicles made it to our Top 10 List. GM’s year to date sales have dropped by 15 percent in comparison to 2018, which is cause for concern as vehicle production will no doubt be curtailed as a result of falling sales volume. Overall though, it was a positive month, given the fact that May 2019 and April 2019 were quite stagnant or negative for a lot of the manufacturers and car sales. Hopefully, this trend continues for some of them that did so well this month!
