CarCostCanada's August 2019 Top 10 Vehicles Sold Report

As the weather begins to cool down, it looks like Canadian car sales are heating up! Last month, we saw a definitive shift for many automotive makers that were not doing so well in 2019, and that trend continued into the month of August. Looking at overall vehicle sales, the number of passenger cars sold dipped by fifteen percent in comparison to last year. While light truck sales increased six percent. Bottom line, light vehicle sales in Canada were relatively flat when compared to August 2018. The biggest winner this month was once again the Ram Pickup truck, which saw a sixteen percent increase in comparison to August 2018. The next vehicle that we saw dominate the list was none other than the Toyota RAV 4, which saw a seventeen percent increase. In 2019, we still have yet to see the RAV 4 do less than what it did the previous year. Unfortunately, there were some vehicles that saw a hefty decline in their sales. The Honda Civic, and the Chevrolet Silverado saw an eighteen percent decrease and a twenty three percent decrease, respectively, in comparison to August 2018. Another important point to note is the positive outcome that Fiat Chrysler Automotive has seen this past month. Their overall sales jumped by eighteen percent. Also, Toyota continues to see positives with not only their individual vehicles but with their overall sales, as they saw a ten percent increase in comparison to last year. Although there were some negatives in August 2019, the positives seem to outweigh them. Many of the automotive manufacturers that were doing very poorly in the first part of 2019, have seemed to have a steady increase as we get further into the year.
